Social Media Q&A: Paul Ferrell

In my new media class, I had to interview two people who work in social media, or for a media outlet. This past weekend I had the honor of interviewing Stevenson University student, Paul Farrell.

Paul currently works for a small organization called NIW Design. From Paul, I learned that the organization has three facets, strategic visioning, event management, and image consulting. Paul’s position with the company is both administrative and creative. As an Executive Administrative Specialist, Paul oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of the firm and creates creative content to advance the company’s brand and image.

Now that you have some background on Paul, check out his Q&A below:

Q: How do you use social media for your job?

A: As the Executive Administrative Specialist at NIW Design I wear many hats to ensure the company’s positive growth. One of which is using our social media platform to promote the company activations during the duration of our contracts and travel ventures. The company and I will also use social media to engage with Brand Ambassadors that we hire to execute our client needs.

Q: For you: What are some pros and cons of social media?

A: Some pros for social media are:

  • Being able to have timeless conversations with people in different areas
  • Networking opportunities
  • Personal and company branding
  • Free Marketing

Some cons:

  • Less real-time engagement
  • Social Media Dependency
  • Easily Distracted
  • Creates Social Anxiety & Depression

Q: Have you ever had a social media crisis? if yes, how did you handle it?

A: Yes, I have had a social media crisis. I had an organization tag me in a post that was unrelated to me and describe how I stole their branding and event idea. I was able to connect with the organization and clear my name and get untagged from the social media post on their platforms.

Q: What platforms do you think businesses must have and why?

A: I think businesses should have an Instagram and Facebook because they are the most widely used platforms right now in the young and old generations. I believe it’s important to use both to reach different demographics.

In addition, I believe that LinkedIn is a good social media platform for businesses to recruit employees and prospects.

Q: How often do you think businesses should post content and why?

A: I believe that companies should post at least once a day. If possible, start a campaign to draw attention to the social media page on a specific day of the week. In addition, creating a creative and engaging social media graphics can help with the social media marketing initiative.

Posting content creates the company’s brand for those who may not be aware of the company’s social media platform.
